Key stages are the groups that have been set up to administer progressive, standardised exams during a child’s education in England and Wales. Each key stage consists of a certain range of school years.
The exams associated with each key stage show how a student is doing in the areas of study that have been defined as targets in the National Curriculum. Your child’s teacher will know what these targets are, and will make sure those topics have been covered in the classroom.
Key Stage
0=4-5
1=6-7
2=8-11
3=12-14
4=15-16 years 10–11 GCSEs
5 =17-18 2 years 12–13 A-Levels, AS-Levels, National Diplomas, International Baccalaureate
Year 10 (Key Stage 4) marks the beginning of the IGCSE examination
courses that will be examined at the end of Year 11. Decisions now need
to be made about the most appropriate courses to be studied for
individuals.
In choosing subjects, students should think carefully about the
following points:
• What do I enjoy?
• What am I good at?
• What do I need for future A-Level choices?
• Do I have a balance of subjects
